Red panda populations in the wild have declined by 40% over the past 50 years and it is thought there are only about 2,500 left, according to manager of an endangered red panda park from BBC. Now, the species is classed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

There are many reason making the number of red panda decreases.

1.Deforestation. Result in habitat loss. And also decrease the the spread of red pandas, leading to severe fragmentation(碎片化) of the remaining wild population. Small groups of animals with little opportunity for exchange.

2.Hunting. In south-west China, red pandas are hunted for their fur, especially for the highly valued bushy tails. Hunting is also one of the main reason for red pandas' extinction.
